About Medium Queens
Medium sits at the centre of the difficulty curve, on the same 8×8 grid as a chessboard. With 45 puzzles it is also one of the larger packs, which makes it the natural place to grind out real fluency.
At this size, guessing stops working. There are too many arrangements to stumble into the right one, so every queen you place needs a reason behind it. The habit to build is chaining: place a queen, immediately mark everything it rules out, then look for whichever row, column or region now has only one square left — and repeat. A single well-chosen placement often cascades through half the board.
Expect six to eight minutes. If a puzzle stalls, the answer is almost always a region you have not re-examined since the last queen went down.
Game Rules
- Each row must have exactly one queen.
- Each column must have exactly one queen.
- Each color region must have exactly one queen.
- Queens cannot touch, not even diagonally.
