Easy adds a fourth rung and still draws on everyday vocabulary. Four rungs is where the ordering stage starts to bite: the middle two can look interchangeable until you check the letters, and the phrase at the ends only unlocks once the order is right.
When a clue is stubborn, solve the others first. With three of four answers in, the missing word has to sit one letter from a known neighbour, which narrows a clue enormously.
